Today we hiked 12 miles, and incase you didn't know, there is no flat on the Appalachian Trail, just up and down. Haha. Luke mostly stoped barking at people, except this creepy old shirtless guy sunbathing. Tomorrow we hike Blood Mountain and into Neals Gap, where we send some crap we don't need home.
Ooh! I get a care package?
ReplyDeleteHappy to read that Luke is adjusting. How is it to sleep in a hammock after a long day of hiking?
ReplyDeleteIt's awesome! :) Way better than sleeping on ther ground!
DeleteLove that you've taken your dog :)
ReplyDeleteand he's a Blue Heeler?
they do say to take only half as much as you think you need!
(from Jill in Australia) I really must get my own ID!
DeleteHey Mary! I started reading AWOL, with the idea of keeping up on where you are by following along in the book. Awol was talking about how at the various shelters there are boxes of 'crap' that are left behind to lighten the load. I thought it was so funny, but he said that a hiker could come with nothing and fill his pack with stuff people jettison -- sounds like you are already learning that 'less is more'. Was thinking this verse was appropriate for you and Jeff today, from Philippians 4:12: "I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little." peace....deb (Curious -- was the creepy, shirtless guy a hiker, or just someone who likes to sun himself at the side of the trail? ;) )
ReplyDeleteThanks for following along! I don't know... he had a tent and stuff, but definitely did not seem like a hiker. I approved of Luke's barking then! Lol
