April 19 - Tray Mountain to Deep Gap

Woke up to rain. Hiked all day in the cold cold rain. My boots were like little swimming pools. (Here's Mary again complaining about the rain...) Luckily we only had to go 8 miles today because we are going into Hiawassee to resupply tomorrow. We are staying in a shelter with a great group of people, lots of laughs.

Shelter quotes: "Why doesn't anyone bring Febreze for trail magic?!?!" Haha

"Yeah, all the shelters have wifi, don't you know?" Hahahaha

  3. I'm sure you've told us, but I have forgotten -- does Luke sleep in the shelter with you, in a hammock, on the ground? I also wondered if very many other thru-hikers have dogs? Also wondered if there are any other daddy/daughter teams that you've met so far. Seem like in the book AWOL most of the groups are just friends, and a lot of single hikers. You know, I never thought about this, Mary, but we have an extra mifi unit that Randy used on the road, but now that he is back home no one is using it and we are stuck in a 2 year contract. It does, of course, weigh a little bit -- maybe 5 or 6 ounces, and requires recharging but really stays up a pretty long time on a charge. Miranda may need it in August when her lease runs out and she moves, but until then you'd be welcome to it until then if it would be handy.

    Thought I'd share a few verses from one of this week's Garden Church readings -- from the 23 Psalm:
    1 The Lord is my shepherd,
    I shall not want.
    2 He makes me lie down in green pastures; (or sometimes smelly shelters!)
    He leads me beside quiet waters.
    3 He restores my soul;
    He guides me in the paths of righteousness
    For His name’s sake.

    peace...Deb

    1. Luke sleeps with me in my hammock! :D lol

      There are a ton of married couples, both young and old. Lots of solos. And I heard that there was a brother sister combo, I think.

      Thanks for the offer on the mifi, but my luck I would accidentally lose it! :)
