April 18 - Low Gap to Tray Mountain

It rained this morning but luckily it had  mostly stoped before we left. We pushed hard to make 15 miles to a shelter which we thought was only going to hold the handful of people we stayed with the night before. Unfortunately it was full and most of the people we had never seen before, which is normal, but we were hoping to stay in the shelter because it is suppose to rain hard in the morning.

Luke wasn't too bad today, except when he saw a dog at the shelter.

  1. I absolutely love the days your face/name shows up on my phone screen, letting me know you are calling or texting. Have we ever been away from each other this long? Make sure to let us know on each of your posts how far you hiked that day and/or how far you've gone altogether. I love you! See you soon! Mom

  2. I didn't realize there would be so many shelters along the way. I would love to see more pictures.

    1. If you really wanted to, you could spend almost every night in a shelter. But there would be several days that you would have to hike 20 or more miles to get there. There are some really nice shelters and also some crappy ones, as you would suspect. They would be much nicer if people didn't graffiti them.

I keep forgeting to take a pictue of them but when I do, I be sure to post it. :)

  3. So do you and Jeff have "trail names" yet? Maybe you could use your cowboy action names! :)

You mentioned hard rain -- we had big hail Wednesday, and several counties north of Indy have severe flooding. Keep your cookpot handy in case you have to wear it on your head to protect from the golf-ball sized hail!

Looked for a verse today that was specific to 'walking' -- found Psalm 119:133: "Steady my steps with your Word of promise so nothing malign gets the better of me." (The Message) I think I can use this verse today, too! peace....Deb
